Although elevated in 2008, Jimmy's preparedness mindset and service to others is nothing new. He served as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) as a young man, and he joined the NC Army National Guard at the age of 21, several years later being selected to serve on active duty status. During his military career, he served as a Combat Engineer, M1 Armor Crewman, and Instructor. His last duty assignment was in Resource Management where he managed federal funds and held a Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) designation.
In 2012, after serving twenty-seven years, Jimmy decided it was time to retire. The actual idea of starting a "preparedness business" after retirement came while having lunch with several like-minded co-workers. Initial concepts of the business were jotted down on a napkin over lunch as he and his co-workers shared ideas. The business would specialize in preparedness supplies and related information, focus on helping individuals and families find the supplies and information needed to be self-sufficient during emergency situations, and provide these supplies at affordable prices. After a number of years of declining health Jimmy retired in 2015 due to a chronic illness. Since then family member have taken the reigns of the business to continue assisting people in preparing for the unexpected. The result of combining a concern for others with a passion for preparedness planning: JIC Readiness Supply!
